The European new car market finishes the year on a great note: up 13% on December 2012 to 950,103 registrations, bringing the final 2013 total to 12,358,239 units, down 2% on 2012. This is Europe’s biggest monthly gain this year and for the last 3 years. Brand-wise, amazingly the Top 4 carmakers all deliver 20%+ year-on-year gains: Volkswagen is up 23% to 124,310 sales, followed by Renault (+22%), Ford (+20%) and Opel/Vauxhall (+22%). Notice also Audi up 16% and Skoda up 22%. In the models ranking, the VW Golf continues its supreme reign, holding the monthly European crown for the 45th month in a row but also lodging the biggest year-on-year progression at +64% to 37,066 sales, with December 2012 coinciding with the launch of the 7th generation Europa-wide.

The Renault Clio is back up to 2nd place for the 6th time this year (astoundingly very regular at #2 every second month!) thanks to sales up 29% year-on-year to 23,767, but this is not enough to reclaim the year-end #2 spot from the Ford Fiesta, also impressive in third position and up 33% on December 2012. Notice also the VW Polo up 19% to #4, Opel Corsa up 18% to #5 and the Skoda Octavia up a spectacular 53% to rank 7th with 15,766 units, only its 5th ever time inside the monthly European Top 10 after January 2012 (#10), last August (#10), last October (#5) and last month (#5).
