Thanks to SMMT, I can share with you the best-sellers for each nation in the UK in December, all in one update. Keep in mind this is a zoom in into each nation, all figures are already included in the UK overall December update. With the UK market is up an explosive 24% year-on-year in December, we have Northern Ireland (+28%) and England (+25%) over performing, while Wales (+15%) and Scotland (+12%) are a little behind but still display very robust growth.

Vauxhall Mokka Scotland December 2013The Vauxhall Mokka is #4 in Scotland this month

In Scotland, the Ford Fiesta is #1 again but finishes the year less than 100 units off the Vauxhall Corsa for #1. The VW Polo is very strong in 2nd place with 371 sales and 3.6% vs. #6 and 2.3% over the full year. But the two big surprises are below: the Vauxhall Mokka makes its very first appearance in any nation’s Top 10 at a fantastic 4th place thanks to 307 sales and just under 3% share. For its part the Dacia Sandero, only launched here last January, improves on an already very impressive November score (#7) to break into the Top 5 for the first time at #5 with 299 units and 2.9% share. 2014 will be fascinating to follow in Scotland, both models having the potential to lodge a Full Year Top 10 ranking. Notice also the Peugeot 308 back in great shape thanks to the new generation at #8 with 213 sales and 2%.

Skoda Fabia Wales December 2013The Skoda Fabia is #10 in Wales this month.

In Wales, the Ford Fiesta delivers an astonishing month at almost 12% market share thanks to 574 sales, finishing the year just under 9%. The Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra complete the podium like last month while the VW Golf is back up 5 spots to #6 which is also its full year ranking. Here too the big surprise is delivered by the Dacia Sandero up a further two spots on November to rank #7 best-seller with 91 sales and 1.9% share. The Renault Clio is also back inside the Top 10 for the first time since we have been following this nation back in July, at #8 with 1.6%. Finally we welcome the Skoda Fabia, lodging its first Top 10 ranking of any UK nation in 2013 at #10 with 72 units and 1.5% share.

Peugeot 308 Scotland December 2013The new generation is starting to impact sales of the Peugeot 308: #8 in Scotland in December.

In Northern Ireland, the Vauxhall Astra holds onto the pole position it already held in November thanks to 86 sales and 4.4% share vs. just #4 and 3.3% over the full year, dominating the Ford Fiesta at #2 and 3.5% vs. #1 and 4.4% in 2013. The Nissan Qashqai, #1 in October, is back on the podium at #3 with 64 sales and 3.3% while the Vauxhall Zafira is back inside the Top 10 at a brilliant 4th place with 2.8% share. Let’s also salute the fine performance of the Renault Clio at #7, Vauxhall Insignia at #8 and Toyota Yaris at #9 whereas the Ford Focus is kicked out of the Top 10.

In England, the ranking is traditionally and logically very similar to the UK one as England represents 89% of overall UK sales this month vs. 86% in November. Like in the UK, the Ford Fiesta dominates ahead of the Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Focus, with the only difference in the Top 10 being the Peugeot 208 managing to stay in it at #10 with 2,191 sales and 1.6%, kicking the Nissan Qashqai out at 2,179 units and 1.6% also.
