South Korea November 2013: Hyundai Porter resists, Samsung QM3 lands

Sales of new local cars in South Korea are down 8% year-on-year in November to 119,195 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,251,617 units, down 1% on 2012. The Hyundai Porter manages the amazing feat of staying in pole position for the 2nd consecutive month and the third time in the last 6 months (and ever) after last June thanks to 8,277 sales and 6.9% share. The Kia Morning (aka Picanto) is back up 2 spots to #2 with 8,080 units and 6.7%, followed very closely by the Hyundai Avante (aka Elantra) at 8,067 sales. Year-to-date, the Avante is in the lead with 86,102 units vs. 85,630 for the Morning, meaning the 2013 best-seller will only be decided in December. Talk about a close call!

The Hyundai Sonata is up one spot on last month to #4 and passes the Hyundai Grandeur to now also rank #4 year-to-date below the Porter, the SsangYong Korando Sports is up a further 3 spots to #14 with 2.4% share vs.#20 and 1.7% year-to-date, the Chevrolet Aveo is stable at #26 vs. #33 year-to-date, the SsangYong Rexton W is up 7 ranks to #30, the Kia Soul up 11 to #37 and the Samsung QM3 (aka Renault Captur) makes its very first appearance in the Korean ranking at #50 with 66 units sold.
