For the second time in the history of BSCB I can share with you today a detailed ranking for Private Sales in Germany, up to #130! Much better than the Top 30 we are used to… As you know these rankings are always a little controversial because of the definition of ‘private’ in Germany. Are counted as Private Sales the cars sold to private buyers. Demo cars, rental cars and long-term leases are not counted as private. This explains the fact that as cars become more expensive, their Private Sales ratio tends to drop: a lot of them are actually on a long-term lease, which can be argued is a private ‘sale’. In any case, the overall Private Sales ratio for the German new car market in November is 35.5%, down from 38% in October which is extremely low compared to France for example, currently flirting with 50%, an all-time low for that market…

As in the overall market, Volkswagen monopolises the podium, albeit with one model change: the Golf and Polo lead the way again but the Tiguan climbs onto the third step thanks to a strong 49.9% private sales ratio (PSR). The Ford Fiesta jumps 14 spots on October to land at #4, followed by the Skoda Octavia and Fabia at a stellar 65.3% PSR. The VW Up! continues its excellent showing at #8 and a solid 48.9% PSR. Mercedes has another splendid month with German private buyers, placing 4 models inside the Top 12, as many as Volkswagen! The B-Class ranks #7, ahead of the A-Class (#9), E-Class (#11) and C-Class (#12).

Mazda3 Germay November 2013Great start for the new Mazda3 with 75.1% private buyers this month.

As usual, Dacia shines at the PSR game: the Sandero is #22 at 89.6%, the Logan #37 at 82.6% and the Lodgy #108 at 68.3%. Other great performers with private buyers in Germany this month include the Mazda3 at #34 and 75.1%, Toyota RAV4 at #36 and 73,9%, Fiat Punto at #85 and 75.9% and Toyota Verso-S at #125 and 78.7%. Notice also the Renault Captur up to #31 and 65.6% (vs. #61 for the Clio) and the Peugeot 2008 up to #39 and 55% (vs. #53 for the 208).

VW Passat Germany November 2013Only 7.1% of VW Passat German customers were private buyers this month.

At the other end of the scale, the VW Passat lags last once again at #54 vs. #3 overall with just 7.1% of private buyers. The Audi A4 (11.5%), Hyundai i10 (12.4%), BMW 5 Series (13.8%), Audi A6 (13.9%), Opel Insignia (14.7%), BMW X5 (15.2%), Ford S-Max (16.7%), Opel Corsa (17.8%), Mercedes ML-Class (18%), BMW 3 Series (18.3%) and Renault Megane (19.5%) also struggle with German private buyers.
