In Ireland new license plates are now issued in January and July, and as a result new car sales slump to almost nothing at the end of the calendar year. Case in point: only 703 registrations in November, down 59% on October and down 20% year-on-year, bringing the year-to-date total to 74,091 units, down 5% on 2012. In this context, the models ranking does not carry much significance, which is why we only cover the Top 20 this month. The VW Golf sells more than double any other model to confirms its 2013 year-to-date crown at 65 units and 9.2%, with the Renault Clio (4%) and VW Polo (3.6%) also climbing onto the podium.

The Nissan Note is up 44 spots on October to land in equal third place thanks to the new model, the Dacia Duster impresses once again at #5 and 3% share, pushing Dacia up to #6 brand above Toyota (!), while October’s leader the Opel Insignia is down to a still very respectable 6th place. Other models delivering a ranking way above their year-to-date levels this month include the Mazda3 at #11 vs. #47, the Subaru Forester at #14 vs. #136, Honda CR-V at #15 vs. #104 and the BMW X5 at #19 vs. #152.
