USA October 2013: Podium 100% Pick-ups for first time in 8 years!

After a shocking 4% decline last month, the US new car market is back to its euphoric self, up 10% year-on-year in October to 1,206,182 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 12,979,521 units, up 8% on 2012. Brand-wise, both Ford up 13% to 184,136 sales and Chevrolet up 15% to 155,214 units outperform the market while Toyota is up 9% to 141,317 sales at #3. Lincoln is up 38% on October 2012, Land Rover up 37%, Subaru continues to evolve at record levels, up another 32% and passing Volkswagen year-to-date, Buick is up 31%, Mercedes and Mitsubishi are both up 25%, Ram up 22% and Acura up 17%. In the luxury aisle, Rolls Royce is up a whopping 190%, Maserati up 186% and Jaguar up 117%!

For the first time since February 2006, the top 3 most popular vehicles in the USA this month are all pick-up trucks! The Ford F-Series is up 13% to 63,803 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado up 10% to 42,660 units and the RAM 1500/3500 up 18% to 29,846 sales. The Toyota Camry leads passenger cars once again but is down 3% on October 2012 while the Honda Civic is catching up at +32% to #5 and 27,328 units, passing the Honda Accord (-11%) and Toyota Corolla (+13%).

Excellent year-on-year progressions of the Ford Fusion up 71% to #11, Toyota RAV4 up 61% to #13, Chevrolet Malibu up 63% to #17, Nissan Rogue up 53% to #22, Subaru Forester up 137% to #23 and the Chevrolet Impala up 40% to #27. In terms of ranking gains vs. September, let’s salute the Hyundai Sonata up 6 spots to #12, GMC Sierra up 5 to #15, BMW 3-4 Series up 16 to #26, Hyundai Santa Fe up 10 to #44 and Chevrolet Suburban up 33 to #65. Notice also the Dodge Dart back down 22 ranks to #66 after breaking its ranking record last month.

A few recent launches are already getting well noticed in the ranking: the Mercedes CLA is up 44 spots on September to break into the US Top 100 for the first time at #76 with 4,895 sales, already the brand’s third best-seller after only the C Class (#56) and E Class (#58)! The new generation Chevrolet Corvette for its part is up an even more impressive 87 ranks to #87 at 3,929 units while the Infinti Q50 remains #117, the new generation Mercedes S-Class is up 65 spots to #142, Fiat 500L up 12 to #153, Mitsubishi Mirage up 20 to #224 and Jaguar F-Type up 5 to #223.

Finally, we welcome 3 all-new models in the US sales charts in October: the controversial Jeep Cherokee lands at a modest 201st place with 579 units sold for now, the Ram ProMaster follows at #202 with 570 sales and the Chevrolet SS imported from Australia where it is sold as the Holden Commodore sells its very first Yankee unit, ranking #258.
