For once the Danish new car market is in decline year-on-year in July at a painful -14% to 14,319 registrations, however the year-to-date total is still evolving at record levels at 106,285 units, up 5% on 2012. We know that mini cars rule the roost in Denmark, but this month they push the envelope even further: 5 of the Top 6 best-sellers are either a Kolin or a Bratislava triplet. What? I hear you think. Explanation: there are two sets of triplets in market right now. The VW Up! (#1 this month), Skoda Citigo (#3) and Seat Mii (#22) are manufactured in Bratislava, while the Peugeot 107 (#2), Toyota Aygo (#5) and Citroen C1 (#6) are produced in Kolin.

Denmark is by far the country in the world where these two sets are the most successful, adding up to 3,084 sales or 21.5% of the market in July alone: 1,583 and 11.1% for the Bratislava triplets and 1,501 and 10.1% for the Kolin triplets. The only “non-triplet” to manage to rank within the Top 6 this month is the Renault Clio IV, confirming an exceptional month of June (#2) by reaching the #4 spot thanks to 499 sales and 3.5%. Other great performers include the Skoda Octavia #9 again vs. #20 year-to-date, the BMW 3 Series at #18 vs. #30, Citroen C4 at #26 vs. #38 and the BMW 1 Series at #31 vs. #47.
