New car sales in Brazil are down year-on-year again in July at -8% to 323,916 registrations, however the year-to-date total is still in positive after 7 months at 2,031,716 units, up 2% on 2012, marking the first year the Brazilian new car market passes the 2 million sales milestone in just 7 months. If the VW Gol is faitful to its traditional pole position with 22,123 sales and 6.8%, the Fiat Palio confirms the 2nd spot it held at mid-month thanks to 16,719 units and 5.2%, above its little sister the Fiat Uno at 15,878 sales and 4.9%. This is only the third time in the last 3 years after December 2012 and February 2013 that the Palio ranks above the Uno, which remains #2 year-to-date for now at 5.5% share vs. 5.3% for the Palio.

Another outstanding month for the Ford Fiesta, boosted by the new generation now widely available across the country: it is up one spot on June to #4 with 14,375 sales and 4.4% and is now within reach of the Fiat Uno for third place! This is only the third time in 8.5 years the Fiesta is that high in the Brazilian ranking after reaching #3 in January 2005 and #4 in May 2013… The VW Fox is kicked down to #5 as a result while the Chevrolet Classic lodges a surprisingly strong month, up 3 ranks on June to #6 at 10,973 units and 3.4%, and the Hyundai HB20 (up 2 spots to #9) and Chevrolet Onix (down 4 to #11) are progressively finding their long-term sales levels.

Further down, notice the Hyundai HB20S up one spot to #23 – here too it seems the model has found its long-term sales potential, the Ford Fusion up 6 ranks to #55 vs. #70 year-to-date, the Renault Kangoo up to #62 vs. #84, Toyota RAV4 up to #78 vs. #199 YTD thanks to the new generation, the Mercedes A200 up to #107 vs. #156 and the Lifan X60 up to #108 vs. #150. There are 3 Chinese models inside the Brazilian Top 100 this month: the JAC J2 at #82, JAC J3 at #89 and Chery QQ at #91.
