Danish new car sales are taking a little breather in the middle of an incredible 2013 run so far: down a minuscule 0.5% year-on-year in May to 16,630 registrations. That’s just a little dent in the year-to-date total still evolving at all-time levels at 74,409 units, up 7% on 2012 and 5% on 2011 which were the two previous best figures after 5 months. No surprise in pole position: the VW Up! remains by far the most popular model in the country, snatching the Danish pole position for the 11th time in the last 12 months with 1,283 sales and 7.7% share. The Kia Picanto is up 6 spots to #2 at 691 units and 4.2% while the Ford Fiesta is up one to land on the podium at #3 with 677 sales and 4.1%.

The star of the month is the Renault Clio IV, up a shiny 12 ranks to #4 at 561 units and 3.4%. The new generation has clearly struck a chord with Danish consumers, keeping in mind the Clio III ranked #14 over the Full Year 2012. The Kolin and Bratislava sisters, usually omnipresent atop the ranking, are pushed a little bit down this month (apart from the Up! of course): the Toyota Aygo is down to #6, the Skoda Citigo down to #7, the Peugeot 107 at #8, however the Citroen C1 is up 5 ranks to #13 and the Seat Mii is up 11 to #21.
