The new car market in New Caledonia, an overseas French territory North-East of Australia, is down 13% year-on-year in April to 828 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 3,435 units, down 4% on 2012. The models ranking is back to normal this month, with the April podium identical to the year-to-date ranking: the Ford Ranger leads with 70 sales and 8.5%, followed by the Toyota Hilux at 47 units and 5.7% and the Dacia Duster with 33 sales and 4%.

The Renault Clio is back up 14 spots on March to #4, the Hyundai ix35 and Toyota Yaris are both up 9 to #5 and #6 respectively, the VW Golf is up 18 to #9 and the Mitsubishi Montero is up 9 to #10. Even though New Caledonia is technically French, there are only 3 French models in the Top 25: the Renault Clio (#4), Citroen Berlingo (#7) and Renault Trafic (#17). We welcome 3 new models in the ranking this month: the Renault Captur with 5 sales, the Opel Mokka with 3 and the Foton Tunland with one unit. It has always fascinated me that just because territories like New Caledonia are French, it means cars like the Captur get shipped there very fast, well before any other country in the region (say, Australia where I live :). Lucky you New Caledonian consumers!
