Thanks to Falkonz who managed to get his hand on Thai car magazine Formula, I can share with you an exclusive Top 40 models ranking for Thailand over the first 2 months of 2013. Building on an astounding year in 2012 (up 81% to reach an unbelievable 1,436,335 registrations), sales over the period are up a further 51% to 255,727 registrations, however remember that at the same time last year most Honda models were out due to the floods. At this rate though, the 1.5 million units milestone will be easily passed over the Full Year 2013, with the Thai market also potentially breaching the 1.6 and 1.7 million bars for the first time… If that is the case, Thailand could become one of the 10 biggest car markets worldwide, passing South Korea, Canada and France!

Atop the Thai models ranking we find two familiar faces: the Toyota Hilux #1 with 36,181 sales and 14.1% share and the Isuzu D-Max #2 at 34,860 units and 13.6%, however this contradicts the monthly pick-up data provided by Toyota Thailand that placed the D-Max in pole position. Strange. Big event in the Passenger Cars ranking: the Honda City passes the Toyota Vios to become the #1 in the segment and third most popular vehicle in Thailand overall thanks to 17,441 sales and 6.8% share vs. 16,699 and 6,5% for the Vios.

A lot of newcomers in the ranking, led by the locally-produced Mitsubishi Mirage shooting directly into 5th place at 10,534 units and 4.1%, while the Nissan Almera is up a very healthy 46% to #6 and 10,036 units. The Honda CR-V shines at #9, the Mazda2 is #11 vs. #17 over the Full Year 2012, the Honda Amaze lands at #19 with 4,146 sales, the Chevrolet Sonic at #23, Nissan Sylphy at #27 and Honda Brio at #29.
