Saudi Arabia Full Year 2012: Hilux up 52%, Hyundai Accent #3

The Saudi new car market finishes 2012 on a high: up 35% year-on-year in December to 69,580 registrations, bringing the 2012 total to 704,214 units, up 18% on 2011. December highlights include the Toyota Fortuner up 4 spots to #8, Ford Taurus up 19 to #11 and Hyundai Santa Fe up 10 to #19. Over the Full Year 2012, the Toyota Hilux keeps the title of most popular vehicle in Saudi Arabia thanks to sales up a whopping 52% year-on-year to 68,016 units and 9.7% share, peaking at 7,397 sales in September. In fact all models on the Saudi podium this year progress faster than the market: the Toyota Corolla is up one spot and 32% to 50,998 units and 7.5%, peaking at 5,847 sales in December, and the Hyundai Accent is up 39% to 39,819 units and 5.7%, peaking at 2,954 sales in April.

Below the Toyota Camry down 2% in spite of the new model, the new generation Hyundai Elantra replaces the old one in 5th place in 2012, up 109% and 5 spots on 2011 to 31,227 units and 4.4%. The Toyota Yaris is up 28% but stays #6 while the Toyota Land Cruiser is up 38% and 3 ranks to #8. The success story of the year in Saudi Arabia is without a doubt the Ford Expedition, up a huge 138% and 10 spots on 2011 to land in 9th place with 19,553 sales and 2.8%. It peaked at #6 with 4.1% share in August

Further down, notice the Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up up 41% to #14, Toyota Prado up 57% to #17, Hyundai Tucson up 53% to #22, Toyota Avalon up 57% to #24, Hyundai Santa Fe up 115% to #28, Kia Optima up 150% to #32, Ford Edge up 123% to #42 and Dodge Charger up 106% to #46. Among models enjoying their first full year of sales in the country, the Chevrolet Sonic ranks #49, Hyundai Veloster #65, Chevrolet Colorado #74 and Ford Figo #85.
