In Pakistan we have access to monthly sales of locally produced models, courtesy of the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association. This is a pretty accurate representation of the most popular new cars in the country as imports are still relatively limited. After dropping by 38% in October, the new local car market is down 23% year-on-year in November to 9,154 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 146,287 units, down 2% on 2011.

For the second time in the last 3 months, the Suzuki Mehran (aka Maruti 800) snaps up the pole position away from traditional leader the Toyota Corolla and this month it hits an out-of-this-world 29% market share thanks to 2,658 sales! The Corolla is down to #2 and 20.3% but stays #1 year-to-date at 37,234 sales and 25.5%. The Suzuki Cultus (aka 2nd generation Swift) continues to progress at 11.3% vs. 8.2% year-to-date.

When you said: ‘The Suzuki Cultus (aka 1st generation Swift)’, I think you meant the second generation, because the first generation rebadged-Swift isn’t produced anymore for a long time.
