The Gulf Cooperation Council is composed of the sates bordering the Persian Gulf: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. October highlights included the Hyundai Accent passing the Toyota Prado at #5, the Kia Cerato up to #11, the Nissan Sunny-N17 up to #13, Hyundai Santa Fe up to #19 and Lexus LX up to #22. In November, new car sales in the region are up a massive 36% year-on-year to 131,988 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,351,813 units, up 22% on 2011 and passing the Full Year 2011 total (1,212,797) at end-October. The models podium is unchanged on October and year-to-date: the Toyota Hilux leads with 11,844 sales and 9%, followed by the Corolla at 7,529 and 5.7% and the Land Cruiser at 6,014 and 4.6%.
Helped by record showings in Kuwait and Bahrain, the Toyota Prado is up 2 spots to #4 with 5,385 units and 4.1%, just 32 above the Toyota Camry at #5 and 5,353. The Hyundai Accent is back to #6 while the Toyota Yaris is up 2 to #7 and the Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up is stable at #8. The Ford Expedition enjoys its 2nd ever month in the Gulf Top 10 after last August at #10 with 2,541 sales and 1.9%. It is #11 year-to-date vs. #34 in 2011!
Further down, the Nissan Patrol is up 7 spots to #17, the Mitsubishi Pajero up 22 to #22, the Chevrolet Colorado going from #171 in October to #28 in November for its first full month of sales in the region with 1,269 units and 1%, the Chevrolet Sonic up 36 ranks to #33, Chevrolet Traverse up 11 to #41, GMC Acadia up 17 to #57 and the Renault Duster up 41 to #70. Notice also the Chevrolet Trailblazer arriving at #165, the VW Polo at #202, Peugeot 208 at #212 and the Kia Quoris at #214.
