The new car market is Oman is up a very dynamic 26% year-on-year in September to 18,503 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 154,485 units, up 23% on 2011. The Toyota Hilux lodges another impressive month, grabbing no less than 14.6% of the Omani market in September thanks to 2,705 sales. Year-to-date the Hilux is at 21,819 units and 14.1%. The Toyota Land Cruiser is #2 this month like in year-to-date ranking with 8.2% and 8.7% share respectively.

Exceptional month for the Nissan Sunny boosted by the new generation, up 2 spots to land in third positionwith 1,386 sales and 7.5%, by far its highest share in the country in a long while. In fact it is the first time since I follow the Omani car market monthly in January 2011 that a non-Toyota manages to rank on the Omani podium! (Note that little trick may have been helped by the fact that Sunny data is aggregated into one model this month).

There are still 7 Toyotas in the Top 10 with Nissan the only other brand represented. Other great performers in Oman in September include the Nissan D22 up 10 spots to #6, the Hyundai i20 up 6 to #18 vs. #36 YTD and #86 in 2011, the Kia Sorento up 25 to #21, the Nissan Armada up 33 to #22, the Lexus ES up 13 to #39, the Ford Taurus up 32 to #43 and the Infiniti JX35 landing directly at #78 for its first month of sales in the country.
