Thanks to Rutger, I am adding a 171st country/territory to BSCB: Brunei! Officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace, Brunei is located on the island of Borneo, counts just over 400,000 inhabitants and is ranked by Forbes as the 5th richest nation in the world due to its extensive petroleum and natural gas resources. Figures released by the Brunei Automobile Traders Association (BATA) show that in September 1,358 new cars found a buyer in the country, adding up to 14,288 so far in 2012.

Kia Cerato

This figure is unusually high as sales traditionally decline after hitting a peak in August for the Ramadan period (1,722 units sold this year) and struggle to pass the 1,000 annual units up until the end of the year as households start saving for the end-of-year holiday season, says The Brunei Times. Toyota is the most popular brand in the country in September 2012 with 281 sales and 20.7% share, followed by Kia at 215 and 15.8%, Suzuki and Nissan both at 118 units and 8.7% and Hyundai at #5 and 6.9%.

Kia Sportage

Model-wise, the Toyota Vios is the best-selling car in Brunei this month with 189 sales, above the Kia Cerato at 98 units, with the Kia Sportage and Suzuki Swift also very successful.
