San Marino, also romantically called the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, is a 61 square kilometres enclave surrounded by Italy and is home to 30,000 inhabitants. Over the first 6 months of 2012, 748 new cars were registered in the country, down 3% year-on-year. Like in 2011 and over Q1 2012, Volkswagen is by far the most popular brand in San Marino, not Fiat even though it is technically right in the middle of Italy.
VW sells 152 units over the period for a fantastic 20.3% market share vs. 15.2% in 2011 and is followed by Audi at 101 sales and 13.5% (vs. #3 and 12.3% in 2011) and Fiat at 76 sales and 10.2% (vs. #2 and 12.6%). Suzuki ranks at an excellent 4th place with 6.3%, ahead of Opel at 4.5%. Notice Land Rover up to a brilliant 10th place with 2.8% share vs. #17 and 1.3% in 2011, possibly thanks to the Range Rover Evoque.
