Japan Kei cars August 2012: Suzuki Wagon R back up to #2

Sales of kei cars are up 22% year-on-year in Japan to 138,405 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,413,410 registrations, up 46% on 2011. The Honda NBOX is the most popular kei car for the 5th consecutive month with 17,308 sales, but remains #2 year-to-date at 142,986 units below the Daihatsu Mira, #3 this month, with 160,290 sales – up 237% year-on-year. The Suzuki Wagon R, #1 in the Full Year from 2003 up until 2011, is now back in 2nd place for the first time since last March at 14,645 units but stays #3 year-to-date with 132,072 sales.
Below, the ranking is extremely stable up until the 9th place, now occupied by the Toyota Pixis Space reaching its best ranking so far thanks to 3,196 sales. The Suzuki MR Wagon is up one spot on July and 54% year-on-year to #10 at 2,969 units and 49% year-to-date at 29,978 sales. Notice also the Nissan Otti up 3 ranks and 32% to #20 with 595 units.
