The Light Commercial Vehicle market in China is up 3% year-on-year in August to 350,293 registrations, to be compared with 226,455 in the whole of Germany or 405,511 in Brazil. For the second month in a row, Chinese manufacturer Wuling monopolises the podium, placing the Wuling Sunshine in pole position for the 21st consecutive time.
However, down 39% year-on-year to just 36,371 sales, the Sunshine hits its weakest monthly volume in over 2 years, a far cry from the 73,302 units it reached in January 2011, but still an astounding figure, to be compared with the 29,056 VW Golf sold in 27 European countries at the same time. The Sunshine’s year-to-date total now stands at 356,160 units, down 25% on 2011 (vs. 301,575 Golf in Europe).
The Wuling Hongguang continues to gradually climb the ladder, up a further one spot on July to a best-ever 2nd place with a record 27,592 sales. It is now #4 year-to-date at 196,131 units. The Wuling Rongguang/Xingwang rounds up the podium at #3 with 27,235 units, down 12% year-on-year. This means the 3 best-selling vehicles overall in China in August are Wuling models: the best-selling Passenger Car is the Ford Focus this month at 25,627 sales, coming #4 overall.
