Over the first half of August, 282 new cars found a buyer in Iceland, which is 22% less than last month. So far in 2012 there were 6,043 new registrations. The Toyota Yaris confirms it is the favourite car in the country with 34 sales over the period for a huge 11.7% market share, nearly double its 2012 year-to-date level of 6.2%. Off the 34 Yaris sold, 19 were Hybrid, definitely a format that is gaining a few fans in Iceland.
In fact the entire Top 4 best-selling models are identical to the 2012 year-to-date ranking, with the Skoda Octavia taking the 2nd spot with 8.2% share, followed by the VW Polo and Toyota Land Cruiser 150 both at 4.2% share. Great performers over the period include the Toyota Hilux at #5 with 10 sales, the Kia Cee’d at #6, the Chevrolet Aveo at #7 (vs. #34 year-to-date), the Toyota RAV4 at #10 (vs. #16), the Mitsubishi Pajero at #11 (vs. #25) and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV at #15 with 5 units sold.
