The Gulf Cooperation Council is composed of the sates bordering the Persian Gulf: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The region is currently one of the most dynamic in the world, with new car sales up a huge 30% year-on-year to 126,066 units and 20% year-to-date at 724,297 units. Like in May, Toyota places 5 models in the Top 5 but in a slightly different order.
The podium stays unchanged and is composed of the Toyota Hilux at 9.8% and #1 in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Oman, totalling 12,293 or nearly double the #2, the Corolla at 5.1% share, with the Land Cruiser, #1 in Bahrain, ranking #3 overall with 4.9%. The Toyota Camry is up one spot to #4 and 4.1% share while the Toyota Prado is down one to #5 and 3.9% in spite of being #1 in Kuwait. There are 3 Hyundais (Accent, Elantra and Sonata) and 2 more Toyotas (Land Cruiser Pick-up and Yaris) in the Top 10 this month.
Further down, the star of the month is the Ford Expedition, now very close to the Gulf Top 10 thanks to its exceptional performance in Saudi Arabia and in progression in all countries in the region. It ranks #11 in June with 2,518 sales and 2% share, 1.5 times higher than its 2012 year-to-date share and over 3 times its June 2011 volume… The GMC Yukon is also in great shape, up 2 spots to #14. Notice also the Nissan Sunny up 3 to #16, the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the Chevrolet Malibu both up 5 to #36 and #40 and the Dodge Charger up 5 to #45 thanks to an outstanding performance in Kuwait.
The Chevrolet Suburban is up 12 ranks to #46, the Chevrolet Traverse is up 14 to #51, the Hyundai Atos up 40 to #55, the Mazda3 up 3 to #61 vs. #74 year-to-date, the Nissan Juke up 14 to #64, the Honda CR-V at #69 vs. #86 year-to-date, the Hyundai Veloster up 10 spots to #74, the Hyundai i20 up 80 to #85 and the GMC Savana up 101 to #92,
