Germany 6 months 2012: Merc C-Class and Audi A6 pull market up

Sales of Audi A6/A7 in Germany are up 44% over the period

Germany is the next country to have its 1st Half models ranking put under the microscope. In the current morose context for European new car sales, the German market manages to hold really well, up 0.7% year-on-year at 1,634,401 registrations. The Top 5 best-selling models stay unchanged but only one sees its sales increase among them. The VW Golf is down a tiny 0.5% to 128,034 units, followed by the VW Passat (-13%), VW Polo (-11%) and Opel Astra (-16%) with the Mercedes C-Class up 3% to 37,566 sales in 5th place.

Replaced at the end of the year, the VW Golf is stable in its native country: -0.5% year-on-year

The BMW 3 Series is up one spot and 7% to #6 and the new generation should push it further up by the end of 2012. The BMW 1 Series is up 5 ranks to #7, ahead of the Audi A6/A7 up a massive 44% and 12 ranks to #8 and the Mercedes B-Class up 45% to #9. The VW Tiguan is up 6 spots and 14% to #11 and broke into the monthly German Top 10 a few times over the period. The VW Up! is the best performing all-new model by far, landing directly at #21 with 20,265 sales, the Opel Zafira is up 85% to #24 and the Mercedes A-Class up 38% to #30.

Sales of Porsche Cayenne in Germany are up 47% year-on-year

There are 4 foreign models in the Top 40, 7 if we include Skoda and Seat: the Skoda Octavia at #15 (+9%), the Skoda Fabia at #20 (-11%), the Hyundai i30 at #26 (-12%), the Nissan Qashqai at #27 (-10%), the Seat Ibiza at 31 (+5%), the Toyota Yaris at #37 (+22%) and the Renault Megane at #39 (-22%). Other great performers over the period include the Mercedes ML-Class up 94% to #65, the Kia Cee’d up 74% to #67, the Kia Sportage up 56% to #70, the Kia Rio up a huge 599% to #73 thanks to the new model and the Porsche Cayenne up an impressive 47% to #90.

As far as newcomers are concerned, notice the Audi Q3 up to #38 with 12,137 sales, the Mazda CX-5 directly #100 at 3,789 units, the Peugeot 208 at #103 with 3,625 sales, the Hyundai i40 at #108, the Range Rover Evoque at #126, the Hyundai Veloster at #165, the Citroen DS5 at #168, the Dacia Lodgy at #209 and the Chevrolet Camaro at #221. Finally the Opel Ampera ranks #208 with 585 sales while the Nissan LEAF is #239 with 249 units.
