Brazil mid-March 2012: Fiat Uno leads with comfortable margin

At mid-March 2012, 132,935 new vehicles were registered in Brazil, down 7% year-on-year. For the first time in 2012, the Fiat Uno leads the models ranking at mid-month and with 10,955 sales and 8.2%, it is nearly 1,000 units above the VW Gol, #2 at 9,973 sales and 7.5%. This is the Uno’s highest margin over the Gol at mid-month since exactly one year ago at mid-March 2011

VW Kombi

In third position the Fiat Palio stays at 4.9% share with 6,549 units, followed by the VW Fox/CrossFox solid with 5,893 sales and 4.4%, the Ford Fiesta Hatch previous generation at 3.9% and the Fiat Strada in great shape at 5,001 units and 3.8% share. The VW Voyage and Renault Sandero, both up 2 spots on February to #7 and #8 respectively, also have a great start of the month while the Chevrolet Cobalt is back up 5 ranks to #11 with 2,919 sales and 2.2%.

The VW Kombi celebrated its 1.5 millionth unit produced in Brazil in November 2011

The Chevrolet Montana is up 7 spots to #15, the Chevrolet Cruze beats its ranking record up to #17 with 1,826 units and 1.4% and the Nissan March stays robust at #21. The 62 year-old VW Kombi is back in the Top 30 for the first time since last October at #28 with 1,154 sales and 0.9%, an exceptional performance and the longest-running model still in production in the world. The first VW to be produced in Brazil in 1950, its career should end this year because of safety features like ABS and Airbag becoming compulsory on all new models on sale in the country.

Fiat Freemont

Further down, the Fiat 500 keeps climbing, up to a best-ever #31 over the period, and the Fiat Freemont also delivers its best position, breaking into the Brazilian Top 50 for the very first time and up 19 ranks to #36 thanks to 896 units sold. Notice the Dodge RAM landing directly at #122 with 102 sales and the JAC J5 at #149 and 45 units, after having its original launch delayed from August 2011 to March 19, 2012.
