The English car market is back down 4% year-on-year in November at 134,027 registrations and is now down 4% year-to-date at 1,822,065 units. The Ford Fiesta is the best-selling car in the country for the 9th month in a row with 6,195 sales and 4.6% share, reinforcing its 2011 leadership at 90,701 units and 5%. Like in October the Vauxhall Corsa ranks 2nd at 5,234 sales and 3.9% but stays #3 in 2011 at 4%.
The VW Golf climbs on the podium for the first time since May at 4,924 units and 3.7%, it is #5 at 3.2% year-to-date. In 4th place, the Ford Focus disappoints at 3.7% vs. #2 and 4.3% year-to-date. The new generation now has had time to establish itself and sales are just not there. Remember that before the arrival of the current generation Fiesta the Focus was by far the UK market leader but this seems to have ended for good…
While the Nissan Qashqai at #7 and Mini at #9 both have very solid months, the Mercedes C Class lodges a performance that only happens once or twice in a whole decade: it ranks within the Top 10 at #10 and 1.9% share for the first time since… December 2005! A good reason to celebrate for Mercedes.
