Swedish car sales are back on the up in August at +9% year-on-year with 24,368 registrations and still up 11% year-to-date at 201,031 units. If the Volvo V70 is still leader at a solid 7.3% market share (vs. 6.9% year-to-date), the big event this month is the very strong Volkswagen figures.

The VW Passat is 2nd this month with 1,606 sales and 6.6% share, possibly its best share ever in Sweden…The VW Golf is #3 at 1,420 units and 5.8% share, its highest since August 2010 (5.9%), and the VW Polo is #5 with 657 sales and 2.7%, again its highest since August 2010 (2.7%). August seems to be VW’s favourite month in Sweden…

Peugeot 508

Other great performers include the Peugeot 508 breaking into the Swedish Top 15 for the first time at #14 with 415 sales and 1.7%, the Ford Mondeo up 19 spots on July to #15 and 399 units (1.6%) and the Citroen C3 up to #30.

Hyundai i40

Notice the excellent score of the Hyundai i40 landing directly in 35th position for its first full month of sales in the country at 203 units and 0.8%. Actually not that surprising, Swedish consumers are very fond of station wagons… On a more negative note, the Saab 9-3 is down to #100 with 46 sales and the Saab 9-5 to #146 with 17 units sold.
