Opel Astra GTC

* Now updated with the Top 303 best-selling models! See 'Read more' at end of post *

Excellent month for car sales in Germany, up 18% year-on-year at 237,561 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 2,121,047 units, up 11%. The VW Golf is strong at #1 just under 20,000 sales for a 8.4% market share, followed by the VW Polo at 6,826 sales and 2.9%.

The Opel Astra gains two spots on July to rank 3rd with 6,415 sales and 2.7%. While having the Astra on the German podium was a given a decade ago, it's only the second time it happened this year after March and the third time in the last 12 months. The VW Passat is down to #4, ahead of the Mercedes C Class and A Class, resisting in 6th place with 2.4% share, its best in over 2 years!

Hyundai Veloster

The BMW 5 Series delivers an extremely solid month at #7, up 7 spots on July, as does the Renault Megane, #1 foreign model this month at #23 with 2,868 sales and 1.2%. Further down the ranking, the Kia Cee'd is up 37 spots on July to #61, the Chevrolet Orlando is up 46 spots to #100 and the Hyundai Veloster is up 117 spots to #117

There are a few newcomers this month: the Hyundai i40 lands directly in the Top 100 at #92 and 562 units, the Fiat Freemont is 153rd with 213 sales and the very first 71 units of the VW Up are delivered, making it #208.

      Hi Steam,
Skoda is fully owned by the Volkswagen group and therefore not considered a truly foreign model.
I know this is debatable but hey :-)

Max bah you know that the A6 is a A7 ” at cofffre “? It is not matgasnier who counts but sources that count!

Too bad the C4/C4 and C3/C3 Picasso Picasso are not separated…

    The DS3 is a C3 3 four.
    The DS4 is a C4 “coupe”
The Fluence is a Mégane 4 four.
The A5 is a A4 5 four hatchback, coupé and convertible.
The CLS is a class E.
    The V50 is a S40 estate.

I think it’s normal to separate 159 and Brera, C3 and DS3, C4 and DS4, Leon and Altea and to add Golf and Jetta, Mégane and Fluence, and S40 and V50…
But why add A7 at A6 ?! That’s two differents models, like Passat and Passat CC…

Strange list. The Jetta is added to Golf sales, as is the Audi A7 to the A6. But then the A5 is listed separately from the A4, and the Renault Fluence is also separated from the Megane… Other examples are the Alfa 159 and Brera, and the Seat Leon and Altea ( together ), and the Volvo S40 and V50, and the Citroen C/DS3 and C/DS4 ( separated ). What’s the logic?

      Hi Tuga,
I’m afraid there is no logic :-)
It’s just the way the data is reported by KBA who count car sales in Germany… I wish I had more detail!
