The cash-for-clunkers scheme is now well and truly over, and the French new car market is down 11% year-on-year at 169,451 registrations. The Peugeot 207 reclaims the pole position for the first time in 2011 with 7,917 sales and 4.7%, ahead of the Renault Clio at 4.4%.

The Renault Megane is up 2 spots at #3 (3.8%) and the Scenic is up 7 spots at #4 (3.3%), with the Peugeot 308 also in shape at #5 (3.2%). By now you all know that the Dacia Duster was #1 for one week during April. It ranks #6 in the full month with 5,328 sales and 3.1%, all new records for the model in France.

Now officially on sale, the Peugeot 508 has a stellar ‘true’ first month, up 18 spots to #17 with 2,567 sales, already leading its category ahead of the Citroen C5 (2,440 sales), Renault Laguna (2,285) and VW Passat (1,583).

Nissan Juke

Other good performers include the Peugeot 3008 (#8), Nissan Qashqai (#19) and Juke (#30) and the Mercedes C Class, up 52 spots at #37. Two models break into the French Top 100 for the very first time this month: the Chevrolet Orlando is #81 and the Lexus CT is #98.
