Australia February 2011: Commodore #1, Mazda3 2011 leader

Mazda3

The Australian car market is still a little bit soft in February at -2% with 80,896 registrations. Queensland sales are down 3% in the wake of the cyclone season but are expected to surge as people replace their damaged vehicles.

The Holden Commodore is #1 for the first time since last October with 3,829 sales and 4.7% share. At #2, the Mazda3 has another very solid month at 3,575 sales and 4.4%, and is rewarded with the #1 spot over the first two months of 2011 with 7,180 sales and 4.6%. A first for the model.

The Toyota Hilux climbs on the podium in 3rd with 3.6%, ahead of the Hyundai i30 (3.3%) and Toyota Corolla, penalised by the end of its financing offer. The Holden Cruze is stable in 6th (3.2%). It will be interesting to follow the Cruze’s behaviour over the next few months as an Australianised model starts production in the Holden Adelaide plant in March.
