Gabon First Half 2010: Hilux should be clear leader

The Gabonese market is down 2% over the first semester 2010 with 2,147 sales, its lowest level in 10 years. The most recent data by brands is for 2009 when the market fell by 7.5% at 4,638 sales. Toyota was 1st with 31.3% of the market, followed by Mitsubishi (18.7%), Nissan (8.8%), Mazda (5.9%) and Hyundai (5.5%).

Cross-checking this data with the most recent data by category in 2006 (4WD 62%, passenger cars 18% and light commercial 7%) and the observation of the streets of Libreville on YouTube, it is fair to assume that the Toyota Hilux is leading the car sales in Gabon, possibly ahead of the Mitsubishi L200.

Other successful models include the Toyota Prado, Isuzu D-Max, Toyota Yaris, Dacia Logan, Mitsubishi Lancer & Pajero, Daihatsu BeGo and Toyota RAV4.
