Czech Republic 2008: Fabia #1, Ford Fusion up to #3

The Czech market is up a healthy 8.4% in 2008 at 143.661 registrations. Homegrown carmaker Skoda (-9.3%) continues to lose share at 31% vs. 37% a year prior. In contrast Ford (+28.6%), Renault (+22.9%), Volkswagen (+27.1%) and Hyundai (+13%) all outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 5.

No surprises atop the models ranking: the Skoda Fabia (-14.3%) is #1 for the 9th consecutive year, and its share decreases continues, minus 4 percentage points this year to 16.5%. The Skoda Octavia (-15.1%) is also down steeply to 8.8% share. Astounding performance of the Ford Fusion (+78.7%): it knocks the Skoda Roomster (-8%) out of the podium. Five of the next 6 best-selling vehicles posts outstanding gains: the VW Polo (+74.7%), Skoda Superb (+74.5%), Kia Cee’d (+60.4%), Peugeot 207 (+36.6%) and Renault Thalia (+16.6%).
