Canada 2007: F-Series and Civic dominate, Pontiac remains much stronger than in the US

The Pontiac Pursuit is #13 in Canada in 2007.

The Canadian market is up 2.4% in 2007 to 1.653.771 registrations, the 2nd largest annual volume in history below 2002 (1.696.803). Ford (-3.1%) remains the #1 brand in the country despite losing one percentage point of market share to 13.1%, and the hero of the year is Toyota (+2.3%) overtaking Chevrolet (-9%) to secure its first ever #2 finish with 11.4% share. The remainder of the Top 10 is unchanged, with Dodge (+2%), Honda (+3.1%), Pontiac (-3%), Mazda (+7%) and Hyundai (+7.1%) in tow and Nissan (+16.8%) and GMC (+11%) delivering the largest gains in the Top 10 just above Jeep (+62.7%) at #11.

Model-wise, the Top 4 stays the same: the Ford F-Series (+2.1%), Honda Civic (+1.2%) and Mazda3 (+0.6%) edge up whereas the Dodge Caravan (-11.1) dives but remains at #3. In fact, the only move within the Top 10 is the Toyota Corolla (-8.4%) dropping from 5th to 7th, allowing the Dodge Ram (+6.2%) and GMC Sierra (+7.3%) to each gain one spot. The Ford Escape (+23.9%) lunges up to less than 1.000 units off a first annual Top 10. The best new entrant in the Top 50 is the Nissan Versa at #17 (+226.1%), followed by the VW Golf at #31 (+75.6%) and the Pontiac Grand Prix at #36 (+58.9%).

The Pontiac Montana SV6 is #20 in Canada in 2007.The Pontiac Grand Prix is #36 in Canada in 2007.

Very discreet in the US with only two models in the Top 50, Pontiac is much more successful in Canada where it places 6 models in the best-selling 50: the Grand Prix, Pursuit (a rebadged Chevrolet Cobalt) at #13, the Montana SV6 (aka Chevrolet Uplander) at #20, the Grand Prix at #36, the Vibe (aka Toyota Matrix) at #37, the G6 at #40 and Torrent at #41.
