Spain 2006: Ford Focus snaps lead in record market

The Ford Focus is the best-selling vehicle in Spain for the 2nd time.

The Spanish car market is up 7% this year to a record 1,634,595 registrations according to Aniacam, down -1.8% to 1.469.149 according to our sources (+409.694 LCVs). For the first time since 1995 and only the second time since 1985, Renault (-17.6%) is not the most popular brand in the country, toppled by Citroen (-1.9%) at 10.7% share vs. 10.3%. Seat (-2.7%) is up two spots to #3, overtaking Ford (-5.2%) and Peugeot (-9.1%) while Opel (+3.1%) is up one rank to #5. Toyota (+20.5%) and Mercedes (+8.2%) post the largest gains in the Top 10 but remain at #8 and #10 respectively. Citroen (-0.8%) holds onto the LCV brands top spot above Renault (-3.6%) and Nissan (+3.9%).

After missing out on the 2005 pole position for just 645 sales, the Ford Focus (-2.9%) this time manages to snap the Spanish models pole position with 4.3% share, followed by the Seat Ibiza (-1.7%) and the leader of the past 2 years, the Renault Megane (-21.5%).

Citroen C4

The Opel Astra (-1.3%) is up one spot to #4, the Peugeot 307 (-21.9%) is down two to #5, the Citroen C4 (+4.2%) up one to #6 ad the Seat Leon (+17%) up two to #7. The Peugeot 207 launches in April, breaks into the Top 10 in September (#7) and ranks 6th in November and December, ending the year at #26. The Citroen Berlingo (+19.2%) topples the Renault Kangoo (-4.5%) to become the best-selling LCV in Spain while the Peugeot Partner (-4.4%) closes up the podium.
