Canada 2004: Ford F-Series and Dodge Caravan lead, Mazda3 up to #5

The Canadian new light vehicle market drops -4.2% year-on-year in 2004 to 1.545.580 units. Ford (-13.3%) is hit full frontal but manages to keep the brands pole position for just 0.4% of share at 14% ahead of Chevrolet (+5.2%) improving to 13.6%. Toyota (+3.2%) cements its third place and breaks the symbolic 10% share barrier for the first time in Canada at 10.5%. Dodge (-3.9%), Honda (-7.4%) and Pontiac (-4.5%) camp on their position while Mazda (+12.7%) passes GMC (+2.9%) to #7 and Nissan (+1.7%) overtakes Hyundai (-10.3%) for #9.

Model-wise, the Ford F-Series (+5%) remains in the lead, crossing the 70.000 annual sales mark for the first time since 2000 while the Dodge Caravan (+2.7%) is back above the Honda Civic (-4.7%) to #2 and the Toyota Corolla (-8.4%) remains at #4. The best performer in the Top 10 is the Mazda3 landing directly in 5th place for its first full year of sales. The GMC Sierra (+9.2%) is up 3 spots to #6 and the Toyota Echo (+25.2%) is up 6 to break into the Top 10 for the first time at #10.
