Spain 2000: Seat Ibiza reclaims #1 spot off Citroen Xsara for just 43 sales

The Seat Ibiza tops the Spanish charts for the 5th time.

After two consecutive record annual volumes, the Spanish market catches its breath in 2000, edging down just -1.9% to 1.359.866 which is the 2nd largest annual score in Spanish history. Renault (-11.9%) is faithful to its traditional brands pole position, but Seat (+2.3%), Citroen (+1%) and Peugeot (+3.6%) all catch up and gain share vs. 1999. Nissan (+18.4%), Skoda (+17.1%) and BMW (+16.8%) post the largest gains in the Top 20. Citroen (+5.2%) holds onto the LCV pole position ahead of Nissan (+5.8%) overtaking Renault (-9.5%).

The Citroen Xsara misses out on a 2nd consecutive win for just 43 sales.

A previous version of this article had the Citroen Xsara #1 but official figures show the Seat Ibiza (-5%) is taking advantage of its facelift to reclaim the top spot for the 4th time in the past 5 years and the 5th time overall, but it was the closest finish in the history of automobile in Spain: the Xsara is only 43 sales below! The Renault Megane (-10.7%) remains at #3 while the Peugeot 206 (+11.2%) is up two spots to #4 and the Opel Astra (-9.2%) is down one to close the Top 5. The Citroen Berlingo (+14.8%) reclaims the title of #1 LCV in Spain off the Renault Kangoo (-9.7%).

The Renault Megane rounds up the Spanish podium like in 1999.
