The Swedish car market stays fragile over the period, down 19% in 1993 to 124,434 registrations but up 26% in 1994 to 156,375 units. Still Number 2 halfway through ’93 at 10% share, the Volvo 850 snaps the Swedish pole position away from the Volvo 900 at year-end with 13,967 sales and 11.2% share (up 41%) vs. 11,845 and 9.5% (-3%) for the 900. The Volvo 850 then reinforces its lead in ’94 when it grows by a further 60% to reach 22,343 sales and a huge 14.3% share while the 900 is at 13,741 units and 8.8%.
