The Renault Clio is the most popular vehicle in Spain for the 2nd year running.

After two years of decline, new car sales in Spain bounce back up 10.4% year-on-year in 1992 to 977.320 units. The entire Top 6 brands are in positive, with Renault (+7.6%) easily holding on to the top spot and Citroen (+36%), Opel (+15.1%), Ford (+14%) and Peugeot (+13.1%) the most dynamic. Below BMW (+23.3%) at #9, Audi (+17.2%) breaks into the Top 10 and Nissan (+30.2%) is up to #11. Citroen (+1.9%) snaps the LCV brands down off Nissan (-16.2%) with Renault (-11%) remaining in 2nd place.

The Renault 19 ranks #2 in 1992.

Model-wise, the Renault Clio (+10.5%) matches the market to remain in the top spot at 6.8% share, distancing the Renault 19 (+6.9%) propped up by a facelift while the Citroen ZX (+146.8%) hits the bullseye with Spanish customers and lands on the podium for its first full year in market.

The Citroen ZX is #3 in Spain for its first full year in market.

The Ford Fiesta (+13.3%) is knocked down to #4 despite outpacing the market while the Seat Toledo (+110.7%) cracks its home Top 5 for its first full year, therefore becoming the brand’s best-seller at home. A third newcomer in the Top 10 is the Opel Astra (+675.3%) adequately replacing the Kadett in Spain’s heart and leaping to #6 for its first full year of sales.

The Toledo is now Seat’s best-seller at home.

The Ford Escort (+34.7%) is up 3 spots to #7 and adds up to a market-leading 7.4% share when including its sedan variant the Orion (+4.4%) at #13. The VW Vento is the best-selling new launch at #39.
